Obituary of James Fuller

Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

At the Sault Area Hospital on Monday March 12, 2018 at the age of 71 years. Dearest husband and best friend of Laurie Barbeau and loving father and best “Bud” of Mere Barbeau. Son of the late Bob & Pearl Fuller and son-in-law of Donna & Leo Niemi. Brother of Rob (Jill) and Jack. Brother-in-law of Fred Barbeau, Chuck Barbeau (Susie), Terry Barbeau, Wendy Robb and Jim Barbeau (Elaine Deluzio). Special cousin and friend of Sandy Haines and Beth Keller (late Bob). Uncle and friend of many. Special life-long and early morning golf partner of Claire Lasook.

Jim played organized hockey from 1958 until 1971. As a forward, he was best known for his booming slap-shot. From 1960 to 1961 Jim played for the “Pepsis” hockey team, a popular wining team in Sault Ste. Marie and Northern Ontario. At 16 years of age, Jim moved to Toronto and played in the Metro Junior “A” Hockey League. He then returned to Sault Ste. Marie and joined the Soo Junior Greyhounds for three seasons (1963 – 1966). University education at Lake Superior State College led Jim to the International Collegiate Hockey Association and the first squad of the Laker hockey team. In 1970 Jim went on to play for the Green Bay Bobcats. Jim utilized his Business Degree in his later employment with the Lake Superior Cable Company and Sault College.

Jim was keen about fishing, enjoying many excursions from camp on Garden Lake.

He was also an avid golfer, and this gave him the needed strength to forge ahead through the many challenges of cancer. He was strong and determined as he played 124 rounds in the summer of 2017.

Laurie and Mere would like to invite family and friends to a Celebration of Life at the Iron Club, Sault Ste. Marie Golf Club (1804 Queen St. E.); the course where Jim spent most of his time. The come and go celebration will be from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 16, 2018. Family and friends on winter vacation can join our special tribute in Jim’s honour by raising a beer at 2:00 p.m.
