Bart Jarrett

Obituary of Bart Jarrett

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bart at the Sault Area Hospital on Monday, January 20, 2025, at the age of 66, after a valiant fight with lymphoma.

Bart was the adored husband of Mary and devoted father of Ryan (Lee-Ann), Stevi-Ann (Steve) and Kyle (Erin). Proud Papa of Ashleigh (Spencer), Zachary, Fern, Callan and Finn. Forever loved by his parents Lee, and the late Lorne Jarrett Sr. Son in-law of the late Rose and the late Herb Fike. Extremely close brother of Lorne (Dianne), Rod (Sandra), Jamie (Dave) and Brent (Kathy). Bart will be deeply missed by his sister-in-law Janet Allen (Dave) “Go Lions!”. Affectionately remembered by Marc Pistor, Amanda Litke and the late Matthew Pistor. Forever remembered by his many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A man of few words, Bart’s voice came to life in arenas and on racetracks. He coached hundreds of young hockey players, including his sons Ryan and Kyle, and many nephews over the years. Teams like the Soo Thunder, Soo Thunderbirds, Blind River Beavers, and Northern Michigan Black Bears were fortunate to have his leadership. Bart also had a passion for Factory Stock Car racing. He was owner, pit crew, and chief of Jarrett Race Team #27, a car he built from scratch and raced by his son, Kyle. He also served as Crew Chief for Dustin Jackson Race Team #61. Bart’s racing footprint is greatly admired by many.

Bart worked at Algoma Steel for 37 years until retirement in 2013. After retirement he continued his millwright expertise, working for Wajax as a General Foreman. He thoroughly enjoyed quality time spent with his children and grandchildren, and traveling through North America with Mary in their motorhome. Bart found great fulfillment tinkering in his garage workshop with every tool and bit of wisdom to execute repairs for a long line of family, neighbours and friends. He was most comfortable under the hood of a car fixing any issues thrown his way and often acted as a personal mechanic for his daughter, Stevi. There wasn’t a job big or small he could not fix.

Friends and family are invited to visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Road, 705-945-7758) on Friday, January 31, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. until time of Funeral Service in the Chapel at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Helen Smith officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Canadian Tire Jump Start or the Soo Pee Wee Arena would be greatly appreciated.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who advocated and navigated us through this difficult journey, including Janet Allen, Ashleigh Fournier, the ICU and Sault Area Hospital Doctors and Nurses, our family, friends and neighbours of Bristol Place, especially Carlo Vernelli, and a special thank you to Bart’s nephew, Dr. Blair Jarrett.
