Obituary of Umberto Nicola Maida

It is with profound heartache that the family announces the peaceful passing of Umberto “Umby” at the Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH) on Monday, August 4, 2025 in his 64th year. Beloved son of Erminia and the late Michele. Loving brother of Franca DiLollo (late Rocco) and Gina Cicchelli (Nat). Cherished uncle of Rachela DiBerardino (Paul), Lori Lazzari (Michael), Ben Cicchelli (Tianna) and Michael Cicchelli (Angela). Special great uncle of Isabella & Lucas DiBerardino, Matthew & Gabriella Lazzari and Gianna Cicchelli. Dear nephew of the late Nicola Maida, Michelina Torquato (late Aurelio), Michele Ianni (late Lina), Giuseppe Ianni (Fiorella) and the late Giuseppina Marasco (late Nicola). Special cousin of Maria Caputo (Ernesto), Rosina Malley, Joe Marasco (Giovanna), Toni Bellini, Lisa Ficociello (Carmen), Frank Ianni (Sandra), Pat Torquato (Brenda), Marie Kim (Bill), Alba Ianni-Parmentola (Massimo), Maria Ianni-DeFilippis (Enzo) and Michael Ianni (Christine). Umberto will be missed by his longtime friends Mike Fera, Steve Fera, Tony Caruso, Mike Pontoski and Loris Pecile. Umby leaves behind a Mamma who will forever remember the legacy of love and care for both her and Papa.

 

Those who knew Umby, knew his love of music and his devotion to sports. He was happiest attending any sporting event or a great concert. Zio Umby will always be lovingly remembered for his special bonds with all of his nieces and nephews that they will cherish for a lifetime.

 

Friends and family are invited to visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758) on Thursday, August 7, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at Precious Blood Cathedral on Friday, August 8, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Hamish Currie officiating. Entombment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Mausoleum. Memorial donations to the ARCH or Tracy’s Dream would be appreciated by the family.

 

A special thank you to Dr. Mark Jenkins, Dr. Voutsadakis for their excellent care and compassion. A heartfelt thank you to the staff at the Sault Area Hospital Cancer Clinic for their unwavering support, BayShore nurses, especially Kim and the angels at ARCH, especially Heather T. who connected with Umby and made him feel safe.

 

Umby was a man who lived simply but loved extravagantly. We know that the biggest concert with the legends you loved the most will be waiting for you.
