Obituary of Thelma Gotlie
Passed away peacefully at the Sault Area Hospital with her daughter, Sandra by her side on Sunday, August 3, 2025 at the age of 83.
Lovingly missed by her daughter Sandra Robinson (Rob Shewan), and three bonus daughters Sherry Shanahan (Doug), Susan Bertin (Frank), and Ann King (Sonny). Mom was the eldest of 10 children born to Philip and Marie Hare in Burgeo, Newfoundland. Sister of the late Gordon, Winnie, Ruby (Lou), Eileen, late Calvin, Jim (Diane), Clayton, Henry (Flora) and the late Philip.
Thelma moved to Sault Ste. Marie at the young age of 19, finding work, friends, and marriage. With Lindsay, she joined the community of Echo Bay, and they served many years with the Order of the Royal Purple and the Elks. She always had an entrepreneurial spirit, creating crafts and selling them throughout her camping travels with Lindsay. She will be missed at the weekly card games with her sister Ruby, brother-in-law Lou, and long-time friend Rita.
As is Mom’s nature she made some friends at the Great Northern Retirement Home. Many thanks to those friends and staff there.
Mom often said she has done everything she had wanted to and lived a full life. It is in this spirit that we send her off for her next chapter of travels. She will always be remembered for her generous and helping nature to family and others in need.
Mom will be laid to rest with her late husband, Lindsay in a private family service at the Maple Leaf Cemetery in Echo Bay.
Until we meet again mom, love you.
