Obituary of Tomasz Tos

Passed away peacefully in his sleep with family members by his side in Sault Ste. Marie on Thursday, September 25, 2025 at the age of 96. 

He was known for his quiet manner, easy laugh, patience and his willingness to help others. People always gravitated towards Tom and enjoyed his company.  Tomasz was born on December 15, 1928 in Lwow, Poland.  He spent time in Siberia, various locations in the Middle East, and England, before settling in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario in 1951.  His first job in Canada was at the Windsor Hotel before he was employed at Algoma Steel from 1952 until his retirement in 1990.  He also worked a second job as an auto mechanic for British Motors.  Tomasz loved cars and engines.  His favorite motto was ‘don’t worry, be happy’ as he encouraged others to live their best lives.  Tomasz was loved by family and friends and will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.  

Tomasz and Mary (nee Spehar) married on September 14, 1957 and they had four children; Barbara, Rosemary, Joseph and Frank.

Tomasz is survived by his wife Mary; his children Barbara (Ralph), Rosemary (Anthony) and Frank; his grandchildren Krystyna (Drew), Krystal (Matthew), Anthony Jr., Paula (Connor), Olivia (Matt), Grace; his great grandchildren Daniel and Graham; and his brother Joe (Irene).  Predeceased by his parents Frank and Sofia; his siblings Stella, Julie, Stan; and his son Joseph who died in infancy.

Friends and family are invited to visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Road, 705-945-7758) on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 noon at Holy Family Parish (208 Prentice Avenue) with Father Boguslaw Jaroszek officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery (27 Fourth Line East).

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Holy Family Parish. Tomasz participated in the original construction of St. Andrew Bobola Church (now Holy Family) along with the other parish members.  He was happy and proud of his involvement in the church and the Polish community.
