Obituary of Dan Sweezey

With broken hearts the family announces the sudden passing of Dan on Thursday, September 25, 2025.  

Loving husband of Theresa, devoted father of Kyle (Joyce Wong) and Heather (Carey Spiece). Cherished Papa of Samuel and Lillian Sweezey. Caring step-grandfather to Callyn, Owen, and Will Spiece.  Predeceased by his parents Loretta and Dan Senior.  Brother of Marjorie Martone (Joe) and David Sweezey. Special nephew of the late Ken Sweezey.  Beloved brother-in-law of Rosa Coccimiglio (late Eugenio), late Salvatore Coccimiglio (Concetta), Maria Palarchio (late Amadeo), Frank Coccimiglio (Maria) and Gisella Gardi (late Vic).  Dan will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews.

Dan was known for his unwavering love and devotion to his family.  He had many passions including puttering at camp, kayaking, camping, skiing and woodworking. According to his grandchildren, Papa was a joyful and patient man. He had a peaceful mindset and soothing blue eyes that twinkled brightly. Tragically, he was taken suddenly while doing what he also loved, playing hockey.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to his teammates and first responders for their efforts.

Family and friends are invited to visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758) on Thursday, October 2, 2025 from 12:30 p.m. until the time of sharing at 1:30 p.m. A celebration of life at The Tap Room (Northern Superior Brewing) from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. will follow. Memorial donations can be made to No Limits Adaptive Ski Program or the Sault Ste. Marie Community Soup Kitchen.
