Gary Trembinski Sr.

Obituary of Gary Trembinski Sr.

It is with broken hearts that we share the unexpected but peaceful passing of Gary Sr., while watching his beloved Toronto Blue Jays.

Gary was a proud Saultite, a man deeply rooted in his community, and a friend to so many. He was the proud owner of Metallo’s Mini Mart, a true community hub where laughter, conversation, and connection were made for many. He served as a City of Sault Ste. Marie Alderman for Ward 6 in the 1980s and 1990s, where his commitment to doing what was right and fair defined his time in office.

He was instrumental in organizing the Air Shows at the Sault Airport, events that brought the city together in awe and excitement. Gary’s passion for cars and community came together when he founded the Queen Street Cruise, Sault Ste. Marie’s largest and most successful annual car show — a summer tradition that continues and will continue to bring joy to thousands every year.

In his younger years, Gary raced cars at the Fifth Line Speedway, and his love for the track never faded. He loved going to and from racetrack to racetrack throughout Michigan with his wife and kids. His 1964 Fuel Injected Corvette Sting-Ray was his pride and joy; a car he bought in 1983 and fully restored in 2017. He kept that car even when it was all he had to his name — a symbol of perseverance, passion, and pride that mirrored who he was as a person.

Gary also gave back through education, serving as a School Board Trustee with the Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board, including terms as Chair and Vice Chair. His dedication to students, families, and fairness was unwavering.

He will be forever loved and deeply missed by his devoted wife Edythe, his sons Gary Jr. (Jenna Gallagher), Kyle (Lisa Lalonde), and Glen (Ciara Spina), his brothers, late Don (Christine), Rick (Brenda), Terry, and Fred (Nicole), in-laws Helen Williams (Don), Craig Lamont, Carol Stober, John Lamont, late Bill Lamont and Mary Anne Finnemore. He will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews. Lifelong friends of his best man Bobby Zeppa, former City Solicitor Lorie Bottos, his car guy Doug Quinton, and loyal customer Shawn Woods. Special thanks to his Queen Street Cruise committee members Gary Jr., Joe Bisceglia, and Rick Niro — your friendship and shared passion meant the world to him.

Gary was larger than life — a man who could light up a room the second he walked in. He was a commonsense man that spoke his mind, stood up for what was right, and made everyone around him feel seen and valued.

Friends and family are invited to visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758) on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Jerome’s Church on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Alex Saurianthadathil officiating. Memorial donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.

His loud laughter, his energy, and his unwavering sense of community will continue to echo through every life he touched and every engine that roars down Queen Street in his honour.

Gary, you will be missed…
