Obituary of Marcel Girard

It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of Marcel, on Friday, October 10, 2025.  Beloved husband of Helen for 56 years. Loving father of Jeannine Morin (Rob), Laurent (Lisa), and Sabrina Williams (Simon). Cherished grandfather of Mitchell, Danielle (Nicholas Maione), and Alex Morin, Gracie Girard, and Emma Williams. Predeceased by his parents Yvonne and Adrien Girard. Brother of the late Lucille Legault (Jean-Jacques), Lilliane Carignan (Bertrand), late Laurent, Réal (Marjolaine Bertrand), Christiane Lacroix (Daniel), and the late Christian. Son-in-law of the late Kay and Doug Crowell. Brother-in-law of Margaret Crowell, Patricia Ronald (George), Vivian Crowell, Gerald Crowell (Ken), and Alaine Hemming (Tim). He will also be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews.

A proud 60-year member of Ironworkers Local 786, Marcel built a long and varied career on the iron. He shared many stories of his work with his son, son-in-law, and grandsons. These stories spoke to the skill, grit, and camaraderie of a life lived high above the ground. Known for his high standards, Marcel expected eagerness, efficiency, and excellence from his brothers on the job, and he brought that same determination, integrity, and quiet pride into every aspect of his life. In retirement, which he began 26 years ago, Marcel turned his focus to woodworking and gardening. His craftsmanship graced the homes of family and friends with dining sets, rocking chairs, armoires, and dressers—all made with care, precision, and love. Each summer, his garden flourished under his devoted care, yielding hundreds of pounds of organic cucumbers and tomatoes, a true labour of love. Each summer’s harvest fed his family and friends. A man of few words, he let his actions do the talking. In recent years, Marcel faced declining health that limited his independence, something he found deeply frustrating. Yet through it all, his spirit, strength, and pride remained unshaken. 

The family invites you to join them at the Marconi Multicultural Event Centre downstairs in the lounge on Saturday, November 1, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. for a celebration of Marcel’s life. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated. 

He will be remembered always for his unwavering work ethic, quiet strength, and deep devotion to family. His kind eyes, warm smile, and steady presence will be missed beyond measure. Though he may no longer walk beside us, his spirit will live on in every story told, every piece he built, and every heart he touched.

Père aimant de Jeannine Morin (Rob), Laurent (Lisa), et Sabrina Williams (Simon). Grand-papa adoré de Mitchell, Danielle (Nicholas Maione) et Alex Morin, Gracie Girard et Emma Williams. Prédécédé par ses parents Yvonne et Adrien Girard. Frère de feu Lucille Legault (Jean-Jacques), Lilliane Carignan (Bertrand), feu Laurent, Réal (Marjolaine Bertrand), Christiane Lacroix (Daniel), et feu Christian.

Gendre de feu Kay et Doug Crowell. Beau-frère de Margaret Crowell, Patricia Ronald (George), Vivian Crowell, Gerald Crowell (Ken) et Alaine Hemming (Tim). Il restera aussi dans les mémoires de ses nombreux neveux et nièces.

Fier membre de la section locale 786 des Ironworkers pendant 60 ans, Marcel a mené une longue et riche carrière dans le domaine de la construction métallique. Il partageait souvent des histoires de son travail avec son fils, son gendre et ses petits-fils. Ces récits témoignaient de l’habileté, du courage et de la camaraderie d’une vie vécue bien au-dessus du sol. Reconnu pour ses standards élevés, Marcel attendait ardeur, efficacité et excellence de ses compagnons de travail. Il a appliqué cette même détermination, intégrité et fierté discrète à tous les aspects de sa vie.

À sa retraite, amorcée il y a 26 ans, Marcel s’est consacré à l’ébénisterie et au jardinage. Ses créations ornaient les maisons de sa famille et de ses amis : ensembles de salle à manger, chaises berçantes, armoires et commodes, tous fabriqués avec soin, précision et amour. Chaque été, son jardin prospérait sous ses soins attentifs, produisant des centaines de livres de concombres et de tomates biologiques — un véritable travail d’amour. Chaque récolte nourrissait ses proches.

Homme de peu de mots, il laissait ses actions parler pour lui. Ces dernières années, Marcel a connu des problèmes de santé qui ont limité son autonomie, ce qui lui a causé beaucoup de frustration. Pourtant, malgré tout, son esprit, sa force et sa fierté sont demeurés intacts.

La famille vous invite à les rejoindre au Centre d'événements multiculturel Marconi, au rez-de-chaussée, dans le salon, le samedi 1er novembre 2025 de 13h00 à 16h00 pour une célébration de la vie de Marcel. Au lieu de fleurs, des dons commémoratifs à l'organisme de bienfaisance de votre choix seraient appréciés.

On se souviendra toujours de lui pour son éthique de travail exemplaire, sa force tranquille et son profond dévouement envers sa famille. Sa douce présence, son sourire chaleureux et son regard bienveillant nous manqueront immensément. Bien qu’il ne marche plus à nos côtés, son esprit vivra à travers chaque histoire racontée, chaque pièce qu’il a créée et chaque cœur qu’il a touché
