Candice Mitchell

Obituary of Candice Mitchell

Surrounded by the love of her family, Candy took her last breath peacefully on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at the age of 76 years. Beloved wife of Garth for 55+ years. Loving mother of Jennifer (Chad) and Matthew (Suzette). Cherished grandma of Paige and Lucas Cruickshank, and Emily. She will be missed dearly by her siblings, Mary Beth (Jim), Micheal (Beth), Cissy, late Mark, Peter (Denise) and Stephen; as well as her late sister-in-law Maralyn (Bryan), Rusty (Candy) and extended family in Southern Ontario. She will be remembered fondly by her friends and neighbours in Sault Ste. Marie and Richard’s Landing.

Candy will be remembered as a genuine, kind-hearted, strong and independent woman who took pride in all of her accomplishments. She was a pillar of strength, a respected leader who gave so much of her time and energy in meaningful ways as recognized by the ATHENA Award for her service to the community. She also successfully ran local businesses, including Show Stoppers Rental Centre which began as a dream in 1986. For Candy, it was never a job, it was her passion.

Candy was proud of her family and while our hearts ache from the loss, we are grateful for the life that she created for all of us – one filled with love, laughter and memories that will be cherished forever. She was an avid reader and always said she was born with a book in her hand. She was passionate about cooking, gardening and her ‘Martha Stewart’ ways. Candy was a true inspiration to all.

A private family service was held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society of Sault Ste. Marie & Algoma District or the charity of choice would be greatly appreciated.

A special thank you to the Alzheimer Society and the PSWs who kept her home just a little longer and to the staff at Mapleview Extendicare Echo Bay Unit.

Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758).
