Obituary of Maria Di Tommaso

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Maria at the FJ Davey Home on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at the age of 95. Maria is now reunited with her beloved husband, Arnaldo. They had enjoyed a lifetime of devotion, marking 55 years. Cherished and loving mother of Rose Rose (Larrie), Nick Di Tommaso (Joanne Fiddes), and Fausto Di Tommaso (Gabriele). A devoted Nonna to her grandchildren: Anthony Tomasetti (Renee), late Ronnie Tomasetti, Darren Di Tommaso (late Michelle) (Carey-Lynn Mount), Krissy Robidoux (Kevin), Ryan Di Tommaso (Sara), Krysten Di Tommaso (Brent Edwards), Ashleigh MacLeod (late Rick) (Mir Shafiee), Riccardo Di Tommaso (Alexia Barone), and Michael Scholz. Maria was also a proud Bisnonna (Great-Grandmother) to Anthony Jr., Kylie, Lyliana, Braydon, Mya, Colton, Kade, Owen, Ethan, Kenzie, Rhett, Rosilie, Felicity, Adelina, and Paul. Mother-in-law of the late Guilio Tomasetti, late Karen Di Tommaso, and Jackie Di Tommaso. Maria was the loving daughter of the late Nicola De Clavasio and the late Carmela Pizzacalla of Italy, and daughter-in-law of the late Antonio Di Tommaso and the late Rosa Matarazzo of Italy. Sister of the late Ottavio De Clavasio and late Dialina, of Sault Ste Marie, and the late Michele De Clavasio (late Filomena), of Italy. She will be sadly missed by her in-laws: late Benitto (Rachela) of France, Liza Leona (Pietro) of Italy, late Ada Giordano (Antonio) of England, late Gabriele (late Giovanna Velletra Di Nicola), late Armando, and the late Luigi (Carmela) of Italy. She will be missed by her special nieces and nephews Carmela, Gemma, and Nicola of Italy, Tina Light (Bob), Lucio De Clavasio (Lilly), late Claira Theriault, and Ermano De Clavasio (Valerie). Maria was fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and friends, especially the late Maria Chiarella (Sam), and Maria Tenner.

Maria, Arnoldo and three children emigrated from Ari, Province of Chieti, Italy, and arrived at Pier 21 in Halifax, Nova Scotia on board the Olympia, April 7, 1959 and onward after to Sault Ste. Marie to pursue the Canadian dream. She was known for her exceptional cooking, warm hospitality, and the beautiful garden she meticulously cared for in years at her home on Devon Road. Maria spent many years working at The Chicken Quick Restaurant and The Purple Lantern and after that in the family businesses: The Family Chef, the Husky Restaurant and The Golden Roost Restaurant as the Boss and the Heart of the Kitchen.

Maria devoted her life to her family, and her greatest joy was gathering everyone for Sunday dinner, in her time of capability.

The family would like to thank the compassionate staff at the FJ Davey Home, Apple Orchard 2nd floor for the care and support provided to Maria in her final year.
