David Redfern

Obituary of David Redfern

After a life well lived, Dave took his final ride up to heaven surrounded by his loving family peacefully on Thursday, February 19, 2026 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Dave was a true gentleman with unwavering kindness and humor, and his presence was the cornerstone of our family.

Dave is the son of the late Rita and John Redfern and the son-in-law of the late Jackie and Dan DePasquale. He is survived by his loving wife, Brenda of 59 years.  Very proud and dedicated father to his loving girls: Pam Auger (Kevin), Loralee Grigg and Deanna Rector. Amazing papa to his grandchildren Matthew Auger (Ashley), Jeffrey Auger (Kate), Noah Grigg (Rayanne), Cole Grigg (Jill), Alexa Rector (Jacob) and great papa to his great granddaughter Blair. He will be missed by his fur baby Lexi, who was his heart and soul. Dear brother-in-law of Dan DePasquale (late Debbie), Jackie DePasquale (late Ed) and Shirley DePasquale (late Brent). He will be dearly missed by his many nieces and nephews.

Dave started his career at Algoma Steel, working in the Stores/Parts Department, until he retired in 1999. He was a very respected and well-liked man, known for his humorous stories, warmth, and laughter. He brought life and laughter to every gathering he attended. He loved his daily visits with his coffee buddies, sharing stories and trying to solve all the world’s problems. In remembering Dave, we honour his vibrant spirit that shone through in everything he did.

Dave enjoyed nothing more than spending time in the garage puttering around with any vehicle he could get his hands on with an engine, whether it had wheels, wings or tracks he could always tweak it to make it faster.  From fast cars, old cars, classy cars, to all the gas guzzlers. Although for every car restored, there was another box of spare parts in the garage.  Dave was well known for his unwavering passion for cars but especially his final obsession with rebuilding tractors.  He loved it all from cars to speed. It wasn't just a hobby for it was his way of life.  His meticulous garage tells a story of his passion. He had no fear, no limits and never backed down from a challenge. Above all he lived life at full throttle.

Dave enjoyed all his adventures with his loving wife Brenda and many close friends from the motorhome trips, snowmobile rides, days out boating, motorcycle rides, car shows, car racing and especially all the wonderful memories with all his friends in the Soo Street Rod Association.

Dad, your life exemplified strength, inspiration, and pride. You were incredibly proud of your children and grandchildren, and cherished attending their sporting events. Your grandchildren respected you, seeking your wisdom and guidance.

Dad, your life was a blessing and your memory a treasure that will be forever in our hearts, we will miss you forever.  We love you very much. We will carry your strength and love with us forever.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the wonderful nurses in the Sault Area Hospital Cancer Clinic.  A special thank you to Dr. Barbeau and Dr. Hill.
