Beatrice Webb

Obituary of Beatrice Webb

Beatrice, known to all who loved her simply as Bea, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 23, 2026. She died gently in her sleep at the Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH), holding the hands of her children, surrounded by love. She was 91 years old.

Born in Michipicoten on November 5, 1934, Bea was the beloved daughter of May and Oscar and sister to Margaret, Luella, and Theresa. Through her marriages to Arthur and later Bryan, she was a devoted mother to Anne-Lorraine, Allan, Tim, Gerry, and Robin, and a loving stepmother to Robin, Keeley, Daryl, Stephen, and Carolynne.

As a young woman, she moved away from home to attend Sault Ste. Marie Technical & Commercial High School, beginning a lifelong relationship with a city and community she always called home. A parishioner and choir member at Precious Blood Cathedral, she had the privilege of singing at the Vatican and the Canadian Embassy in Rome with the Chamber Singers of Algoma. She loved community theatre and performed with the local Musical Comedy Guild, including a role in her favourite production, The Sound of Music. She raised her family in Manitou Park.

After retiring from Sears in 1995, Bea embraced life with even greater enthusiasm. Her family continued to grow across generations, and she cherished her role as grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Endlessly active and curious, she delighted in cryptic crossword puzzles and maintained a remarkable commitment to fitness, earning recognition from GoodLife well into her 80s. She loved gardening, hosting summer barbecues, and baking pies made from the wild raspberries and blueberries picked by her grandchildren. She delighted in coffee catch-ups with friends at Tim’s, long dinners at Giovanni’s, lively conversation, and a celebratory glass of Pinot Grigio shared in good company. Travel also brought Bea great happiness, including annual holidays to Aruba and a memorable stop in Nashville where she proudly met her favourite singer, Charley Pride. Her final trip was to Toronto for her 90th birthday, where she enjoyed live shows, afternoon tea, and a surprise visit from her dear friend Esther.

Bea will be remembered for her elegance, her laughter, and her angelic singing voice. Every kiss hello and hug goodbye was accompanied by the soft, unmistakable trace of Red Door, and for all who loved her, the scent will forever remain a passage back to Bea.

Beatrice will be interred at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. A private family ceremony and a celebration of her life will be held in the early summer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bea’s memory to ARCH or the Heart and Stroke Foundation, causes close to her heart and organizations she proudly supported through her canvassing efforts. Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758).
