Obituary of Thomas Alan Brough
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Al. After a brief illness, he passed away with the love of his life by his side on Friday, February 27, 2026 at the age of 80. Al was the devoted husband of Carol (nee Keenan), having spent 61 loving years together. Loving father of Steve (Jennifer), Mel Lelievre (Tim) and the late Paul (Rhema). A proud grandfather of Ryan, Ethan, Lauren, Gordon, Dylan and Lucas. His loss will also be deeply felt by his brother Eric (Anne), his sisters Diane (Andy) and Pat as well as his many nieces and nephews back in the UK. He was also eternally grateful to Ethan’s mother, Lindsay McCauley (Joe) who he viewed as a true extension of our family.
Al immigrated to Sault Ste. Marie in 1978 to take a job at Algoma Steel, where he worked as an Engineer until 2009. Al had many accomplishments over his decades long career and felt particular pride in his contributions to the development of the DSPC Mill.
Al enjoyed spending his time learning, gardening, travelling and golfing. No matter what he was doing he was certainly making people laugh. His sharp wit and quick timing meant he never missed the opportunity for a joke. Though he is no longer here to deliver them, the echoes of his humor will continue to bring smiles to all of us who were lucky enough to know him.
Al’s true legacy is his family. He cherished every moment with his wife, children, and grandchildren, finding joy in their laughter, pride in their accomplishments, and comfort in simply being together. His jokes and laughter were the soundtrack of family gatherings, but it was his love, devotion, and steady presence that left the deepest mark.
Friends and family are invited to visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758) on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service in the Chapel at 12:00 noon. Memorial donations to the Sault Area Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice are greatly appreciated by the family.
Goodbye to a funny man who loved fiercely, laughed freely, and will be missed more than words can say.
