Helen Kamzol

Obituary of Helen Kamzol

With sadness, but with lives blessed by her constant support and love, the family of Helen announce her passing on Sunday, March 15, 2026, in her 102nd year.

Helen (nee Pekala) was born in Glowaczowa, Poland and raised in very difficult times. One of nine children, with both parents passing before she was six years of age, Helen experienced a difficult early childhood. Early during the 2nd World War, she was conscripted and forced to work in Germany. Those five years shaped her determination and commitment to surviving and thriving with so very little.  At war’s end she migrated to the UK where she worked in a number of character-building jobs. During this time, she met a young Polish soldier (Jan Kamzol) and eventually emigrated to Sault Ste. Marie in the spring of 1950 and married Jan who had arrived earlier.

Helen was a devoted mother and helped shape her three sons and their families with passionate care and support. Helen’s life centered around the family and the role of homemaker. Known for her appetite for shopping, the occasional foray into the casino or the Water Tower Inn, she welcomed all into her modest world. She is predeceased by her husband and survived by her loving sons Anthony (Janice), Stan (Pat) and Mark; grandchildren, Andrew of Mississauga, Chris (Corinne) of Cambridge, Jamie (Jaden) and Tyler (Julia) of Sault Ste. Marie, and her very special great grandson Carter. Each could light up her life and remind her of her love for family. Helen was a special sister-in-law to Stanislawa (Stella) (late Antoni) and her niece Marzena (Andrzej) all of the Sault.

The family wish to thank the staff at the F.J. Davey Long Term Care Home for having provided Helen with the care, support and comfort that she received in her final years. Their attention and compassion will never be forgotten.

In keeping with Helen’s wishes, a private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758).
