Obituary of Barbara Bruni
With deep sadness we share the passing of Barbara, who left us peacefully on March 19, 2026, at the age of 81. She spent her final days at the F.J. Davey Home in the loving care and presence of family, friends, and dedicated caregivers.
We take comfort in knowing that Barbara now rests alongside her beloved husband of 60 years, Francesco. The heart of our family, Barbara was the devoted and loving mother to Elisa Caputo (Sam), Mary, Loredana, Anthony (Tianna), Silvana (Ronnie Mancuso), and Frank (Melissa). She was the proud Nonnina of Vincent Caputo (Hailey), Mikaela Caputo (Vinny), Talia and Mattea Bruni, Teo and Francesca Bruni, and Stella Mancuso.
Barbara was the eldest daughter of the late Maria and late Domenico Ruscio. Dearest sister of Joe (late Caterina), Tony (Anna), late Pat (Nunzia), Carmelina, Caterina (Enrico), late Vincenzo (late Vincenza), Vittoria (Franco), Francesco (Adelina) and Mirella. Daughter-in-law of the late Antonio and the late Elisabetta Bruni. Sister-in-law of the late Barbara (late Michele), late Giuseppe (late Antonietta), late Angela (late Vito), Vincenzo (Laura), and Carmelo (late Carmela). She will be sadly missed by her brother-in-law Joe DeNisi and fondly remembered by her many nephews, nieces, cousins, and close friends.
Barbara was born on September 21, 1944, in Filadelfia, Calabria. In February of 1962, at the age of 17, she bravely immigrated to Sault Ste. Marie, Canada. Shortly after, her sweetheart followed her to Canada, and they married in 1965. She devoted her life to raising six beautiful children and adoringly cherished her seven grandchildren. The kitchen was the heart of our home, where Barbara generously expressed her love through her incredible Italian cooking and baking. Her breadsticks, pizza, zeppole, frittelle, pasta rolls, and lasagna were favourites, made with her magical touch and shared in abundance. There was always room at her table - whether for one, ten, or twenty more - and everyone who gathered there was welcomed as family. She had a gift for connecting with others and touched the lives of all who had the good fortune to know her. Later in life, Barbara lived with Parkinson’s for over 20 years, facing its challenges with remarkable strength and tenacity. Her faith and resilience shaped not only her life, but the lives of those around her, showing us what it means to endure with grace. Even through difficult days, her quick wit never left her. Barbara leaves behind a legacy of deep love, unwavering devotion to her family, the joy she shared through her cooking, and a kind and generous spirit that will always be remembered.
We would like to extend a special thank you to Barbara’s friend and caregiver, Mamta. As well as Barbara’s health care team: Dr. Lang at the Movement Disorders Clinic at Toronto Western Hospital and the wonderfully caring staff at the F.J. Davey Home on Driftwood Beach 2, especially Sam and Meera.
