Obituary of Dr. Marc Jacqmin
Passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 28, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith and devotion. Beloved husband of Vija for 59 wonderful years.
He is profoundly missed by his wife Vija (Peics). He is fondly remembered by his nephews Charles MacMillan (Alicia) (children Lila and Parker), James MacMillan (Chantal) (children Sophie and Anna), niece Lisa (Isaac) (daughter Valentina) and his sister Madeleine.
Marc was born in Lewiston, Maine. The family moved to Montreal when he was young. He graduated from Medical School in 1967 and completed his medical training in Orthopaedic Surgery through McGill. After a short stay in Quebec, he relocated to Sault Ste. Marie where he provided orthopaedic services until his retirement.
Marc and Vija shared a deep and enduring bond, built on mutual respect, companionship and unwavering love. Their lives were richly blessed with cherished family members and dear friends who became part of their extended family. Vija was truly the love of Marc’s life and together they created a home filled with warmth, kindness and quiet strength that touched all who knew them.
Dr. Jacqmin will be remembered as a wise, humble and God-fearing man whose life was a gift to so many. A legend in his time as an orthopedic surgeon, he improved thousands of lives through his skill, precision and unwavering dedication to his work. He was deeply respected not only for his surgical excellence, but also for his spirit of collaboration and the care he showed to colleagues and patients alike.
Beyond his profession, Marc touched countless lives with his kindness, compassion and genuine love for others. His strong work ethic and generous heart were evident in all he did.
As a man of faith, he lived his beliefs daily – within his family, his profession, his community and his relationship with God – offering his time, talents and resources with great generosity. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, service and love that will not be forgotten.
Friends and family are invited to visit at St. Jerome’s Catholic Church (26 Carmel Road) on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 12:00 noon with Father Alex Saurianthadathil officiating. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Memorial donations to St. Jerome’s Church or the SAH Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family.
A heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Sault Area Hospital ICU for the care, compassion and dignity shown to Marc and Vija throughout this difficult time.
