Debra Fratesi

Obituary of Debra Fratesi

It is with profound sadness we announce the unexpected passing of Debra in her 71st year.

Debra was perhaps the most unique person any of us had the privilege of knowing.

She carried a deep sense of justice and was tireless in defending what she believed was right.

She cared immensely for those she loved, including her many friends, cousins, acquaintances and her family.

She did things her own way, whether that was dressing exclusively as a cowboy for a period of her childhood, or sporting head to toe skulls while riding her motorcycle to the beach in her later years.

Debra was an incredibly vivacious, intelligent and creative person, known for her eccentric sense of style. She found joy in decorating, transforming everyday spaces into imaginative reflections of her one-of-a-kind perspective.

She was a whiz with numbers, had a passion for retail therapy, loved a good bargain and had a flair for finding treasures (particularly items with a little extra bling). She loved church teas, watching movies, being lakeside and planning her next trip around the world. She was adventurous and curious and always on the move.

Debra marched to the beat of her own drum and was unrelenting and unapologetic about what she liked and who she was.

She was a loving mother who adored her children Jasmyn Rowley (Joel) and Nylan Pozzo (Rachel), stepchildren Kerri O’Bumsawin Brule (Larry) and Darren Pozzo, and grandchildren Remington, Ryerson and Mae Rowley, Kailey and Brooklyn O’Bumsawin (Nic) and Kai Pozzo. She was a loving Yiayia to her grandkitties, Archie and Greg, and always brought them a special treat when she visited.

Debra loved her parents, Doris and Duilio (Duke) Fratesi, beyond what words can describe and will undoubtedly be grateful to be reunited with them. She had deep admiration for her older brother Peter Fratesi (Barbara), whom she grew very close with in her final years.

She cherished family above all else and was at her happiest when sharing a funny story or fond memory.

The world has lost a firecracker. She will be missed by all who loved her.

The family would like to extend an invitation to join them for a time of visitation and remembrance in the Lower Lounge at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758) on Wednesday, April 15, 2026 from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. We welcome family and friends to drop in, pay their respects and stay to share food and memories.

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine

You make me happy when skies are gray

You'll never know, dear, how much I love you

Please don't take my sunshine away.
