Some of my best memories are with John at Humber College on a Saturday night with guitars out playing American Pie and Dear Abby by John Prine. John was a great guy who was always fun to be around. He left us too early and will be deeply missed.

To the family and friends of John Murtha. I am at a loss for the words to say how sorry and heartbroken of a friend who I went to school with from kindergarten to high school. John grew up in what used to be Lindsayites call pumpkin hollow. Many a Sunday afternoon it was road hockey madness with Johnny between the pipes with the southpaw glove! Then hockey at the good old Kiwanis arena. RIP my friend! Maybe send down some instructions for those Leaf goalies. Again condolences to all!

Karen and I are so very sorry for your troubles. John Aiden was always a bright light even as a child. I recall meeting him for the first time as a baby when Auntie Lena brought him for a visit to our house. My mind's eye can see him in the playpen with my sister Sheila.
I recall being at Simcoe Street and having him present is latest mixed tape or music for our review. Last time I heard him on the radio I marvelled at how much his DJ ability had improved!

I feel punched in my heart; an ache that thorns. I’m so so sorry for your loss. I have kept you all in my heart since reconnecting at the hospital. You’re a courageous family though the loss of John is so deep. Through all the years we made memories, both laughter and support for each other through difficult times, I’m ever grateful. His easy laugh, sparkling eyes and positivity will be remembered. One of my very first memories was how hair would get messier and messier all on its own as the parties went on…
There are no words for this loss. Holding you all warmly, Susan Ritchie ❤️

Sincerest condolences Maria, Joanna and Angela.
Know that all three of you were the light of John’s life and the centre of his universe.
As a friend for 35 years we will always remember John’s infectious smile, his hearty laugh, and his desire to have a good time. He was thoughtful, caring and compassionate. He was honest, generous and forgiving. He had all the qualities of a wonderful husband, father and friend.
Cherish your memories. Keep him close to your heart and he will always be with you and keeping you safe.
Lots of love,
Elaine and Rod Mills

I'm saddened to learn of the loss of Johnny, a great friend for more than 30 years, a relationship that first developed in our joint work in the media.
Johnny was a salt-of-the-earth, kind, thoughtful and welcoming man. He always was on an even keel no matter the situation. I enjoyed our many hockey pools together and a highlight was a trip to Detroit in 1997 with a group of friends to take in a couple of Tigers games.
I'm thankful we were able to stay connected after my family and I moved west and that we had a great visit together last fall.
Johnny will be sorely missed. I extend my deepest condolences to Maria, Angela and Joanna as they navigate this loss.
