Obituary of Josef Hermann

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Josef at the Sault Area Hospital with his family by his side on Friday, April 24, 2026 in his 87th year. He was born in Kolut, Yugoslavia, a son of the late Josef Hermann and the late Eva Schaefer.

He is survived by his son, Curtis and daughter-in-law, Gayle, his sister, Hedi Sciascia (late Don) and brother, Gerhardt (Resi) Malkmus.  Husband of the late Babs Hermann (Emery) and first wife Carol Sykes (Ott).

Joe came to Canada at the age of 18.  He was a carpenter for 60 years (55 with the carpenter’s union) and he loved traveling.  He traveled the world and his favorite place was Portugal.  He reunited with his friends every year there for 33 years in a row. 

At Joe's request, there will be no funeral service.  A private family graveside urn committal will take place in Josef's honour at a later date in Lockport, New York.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to a charity of choice.
