Obituary of Alfonso Scornaienchi
It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our Husband, Dad, Nonno, Brother and Friend, Alfonso on Monday May 4, 2026 at the age of 79 years. Alfonso has left the love of his life and soulmate Lena to whom he was married to for 56 years. Dad was loved beyond words by his three children and their spouses, Teresa Perri (Chris), Frank Scornaienchi (Marci Plaku Sandie) and Stephanie Watson (Lee). He was a loving and proud Nonno to his six grandchildren: Mateo, Diego, Milana, Rocco, Liam, and Logan. He found happiness in watching his children and grandchildren achieve their goals and he celebrated every accomplishment. He was always present, always full of love, and always very proud.
Born on January 5, 1947, in Dipignano Cosenza, Italy. Alfonso was the son of the late Salvatore Scornaienchi and the late Raffaele Gatti. He was the brother of the late Maria Presta (late Tony), late Vince Scornaienchi (late Gina), late Giuseppe Scornaienchi (Ernestina), Alfredo Scornaienchi (late Adele), and in Italy to Franco Scornaienchi (Cenzina), Angelina Viapiano (Franco), and Lydia Roccanova (late Franco). Dad always checked in on Uncle Alfredo and was very excited with the creation of FaceTime where he could video chat with his brother and sisters in Italy often. Special brother-in-law of Maria Chilelli (Rino) and Zio to his many nieces and nephews both here and back in Italy.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Funeral Service in the Chapel at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758) on Friday, May 8, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Sault Area Hospital Cancer Care Fund or the Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH) would be greatly appreciated. The family wishes to thank the Sault Ste Marie Police, EMS, and the SAH Emergency staff for the care and compassion.
Dad was an amazing selfless Husband, Father and Nonno. There was nothing he wouldn’t do. He put all of us before himself, always there to build, to fix, or to offer his wisdom and support. You could always find him sitting in his garden with his brandy and espresso nearby. We love You Dad...We will always save your spot at the table, at the rink, and on the sidelines.
Until we meet again...Salute
