Obituary of Lorraine Jago
Like her husband, Larry, Lorraine lived a long and healthy life. She died peacefully at the FJ Davey Home.
Lorraine was predeceased by her devoted husband of 68 years, Larry. She was the loving mother of Laurie Jago, Jo-Anne Slumskie (Dan) and Terri Jago (Jim Falconer). She was the grandmother of Adam Slumskie (Marla), Riley McKerrow (Steve), Sarah Falconer (Jason) and Jenn Robbins (Doug), and the great grandmother of Grace and Leo Slumskie and Chase and Emily Robbins. She was a dear friend and cousin of Earla.
Lorraine was born in Thessalon but lived most of her life in Sault Ste Marie. She was introduced to Big Basswood Lake by her beloved Aunt Dell. She spent summers there in her youth, including a summer job at Melwel Lodge. Lorraine and Larry then spent much of their married life at their camp on Basswood Lake. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren have followed in their footsteps.
Most of Lorraine’s employment was at the ‘Bug Lab’ and the Algoma District School Board where she met lifelong friends, like her dear friend Sharla. Lorraine was a loyal friend who was always ready to go to lunch, the casino or travel with them. She instilled the value of both friendship and family in her daughters.
Lorraine enjoyed volunteer work with the Cancer Society, Christmas Cheer and Meals on Wheels. She loved helping others and was always there for relatives or friends who needed her.
Lorraine was well known for her legendary baking. She was happiest making huge batches of cookies, butter tarts, pies, cakes and squares that everyone enjoyed. To all who knew her, Lorraine will also be remembered for her quick wit, sharp sense of humour, and unmistakable sarcasm.
Her legacy will be found in every Basswood sunset, every warm biscuit at family gatherings, and in the endless love of the people she cherished the most.
Lorraine’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Doctor Sharp and the entire wonderful staff of Driftwood 3 at the Davey Home. They took such kind, loving care of her and we are forever grateful.
In keeping with Lorraine’s wishes, there will be no service. Donations can be made in Lorraine’s memory to the FJ Davey Home, the Canadian Cancer Society or St. John’s Ambulance Therapy Dog program (press Northeast Region then Therapy Dogs). Arrangements are entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758).
