Obituary of Catherine Campbell
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Catherine, on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, just weeks after the passing of her beloved husband of 75 years, Lawrence. Catherine was beautiful in every way. Her warmth, resilience, and quick wit will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She lived with deep faith and devotion, leaving a legacy of kindness, grace, and unforgettable hugs.
Catherine grew up in a Christian family on the bank of the Two Tree River on St. Joseph Island. Her future husband lived on the opposite bank. They started their married life together on her family farm, building their lives on faith, family, and friendship. They raised three children and shared many memories in their close-knit communities on the Island and later in their home on Moluch Street in Sault Ste. Marie. Throughout their lives, these two homes were at the heart of the communities and friendships they cherished, and they enjoyed them both until their passing. After a long winter delayed Lawrence’s burial, they will finally be laid to rest together in a joint interment on May 21 at Holy Trinity Cemetery, St. Joseph Island. It is a beautiful ending to a wonderful life together.
For Catherine, family was everything. It was the center of her life. Catherine was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and so much more to everyone who knew her. She was married to Lawrence for over 75 years. Loving mother of the late Holly Davis (Ross), the late Clair (Sandy Irwin), and Alex (Kathy). Grandmother of Martin Davis (Judit), Jeremy Davis (Bryanne), Karli Campbell Dionisi (Mitchell), and Michael (Brianna Niro). Great-grandmother of Lincoln, Ivory, Owen, Peyton, and Weston, and she was excited to welcome a sixth great-grandchild this summer.
Catherine was born in Richard’s Landing on March 10, 1931. She was the fifth of six sisters, having survived Iris, who died as an infant, Shirley McKay (Grant), Lois Crowder (Frank), Diana Hicks (Eric), and Alma Winsor (Bill). She also survived many brothers- and sisters-in-law, Joe (Louise), Jack (Jean), Ella Boyle (Jack), Frank (Dorothy), Bill (Italy, 1944), Edna Dixon (Donald), and Douglas (Gerry).
Friends and family are invited to visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758) on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at Emmaus Anglican Church (1643 Wellington St. E.) on Thursday, May 21, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev.
