Maria Policicchio

Obituary of Maria Policicchio

It is with great sadness in our hearts that we announce to our family and friends the peaceful passing of Maria at the Sault Area Hospital with her family by her side on Sunday, May 24, 2026 at the age of 82. Maria was born on February 1, 1944 in Laurignano, Cosenza, Italy to the late Rosina and the late Pasquale Perri and later became the daughter-in-law of the late Carmela and the late Enrico Policicchio of Italy.

Maria is now reunited with her loving and caring husband and soulmate, Agostino.  They were 20 minutes away from celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary when Agostino passed away. She was the most genuine, caring, loving mother of her two sons Pasquale (Pat) Policicchio (Leslie) and “Bello di Mamma” Giovanni (John) Policicchio (Sharon).  Nanna adored family and received such immense satisfaction spending time being around her grandchildren Peter (Rikki), Samantha (Ian), Erin (Ricky) and Leah (Graham) and great granddaughter Petra.

Maria was the second-born child from a family of four sisters all born in Italy.  She was the very proud sister of Adelina (late Pietro Iacoe), Assunta (late Alfredo Bruni) and the late Ida and Franco Felice.

Maria was the sister-in-law of late Giuseppe and the late Ottorina Policicchio, late Saverio Policicchio of Italy, late Michele Policicchio (Francesca), late Mario Policicchio (Rosetta) of Toronto, late Giuseppina and late Generoso Muto of Italy, Rosina and Domenico Piluso of Italy, Maria Cavaliere (late Achille) and Antonio Policicchio (Lina). She is fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins who were all very important and special to her.

Maria would want us to express her sincere appreciation to people who supported her this past year.  A special thank you to Sharon Grasley who became a special friend and companion to Maria.  Her world expanded with new relationships with Kayley, Muriel, Lena and Billi-Jo from CBI Supports.  We will be forever grateful to all these wonderful ladies who became an important part of Maria’s life this past year.

She will be forever missed by long-time cherished friends, neighbours and special friend Ernestina Scornaienchi.

Mom had an abundance of talents and abilities but her best skills were gardening and preparing homemade meals and baking. We will miss her take-out orders and the abundance of garden vegetables and spices she shared with us. There was never any shortage of homemade foods and meals when you visited Maria.  Mom was a gardening inspiration to many but especially her special friend David Pitonyak (Blacksburg, Virginia).

Friends and family are invited to visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Road, 705-945-7758) on Thursday, May 28, 2026 from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the Funeral Service in the Chapel at 1:00 p.m. Entombment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Mausoleum.  Memorial donations to the Sault Area Hospital, Diabetes Canada or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
