Alfred Porter

Obituary of Alfred Joseph Porter

It is with great sadness that the family of Alfred announces his passing on Saturday, May 23, 2026.

He is survived by his wife, Wendy, who is honoured to have spent the last 40 years by his side.  Proud father of Lori Lariviere of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Julie Koteles (Paul) of Banff, Alberta, bonus dad of Amanda Brandt (Jamie) of Claremont, Ontario and Jodi Pold (Steven) of Calgary, Alberta. Grandpa was a title he cherished, and he will be missed dearly by his grandson Logan and granddaughters Lilah and Winnie. Alfie was the son of the late Joseph and the late Carmel (Pettalia) Porter. Survived by his siblings, brother Tom Porter (Marcy) of Windsor, Ontario and sister Sue Laidlaw (Perry) of Windsor, Ontario. He will be fondly remembered by his extended family members across Canada and the United States.

Alfie was a kind and loyal friend and lived a life well worth remembering. He spent some of his happiest hours on the riverbank with a fishing rod in hand and the river flowing by.  He knew every bend, hidden eddy, and secret spot, often sharing his passion with family and friends.

The family would like to extend their sincere thank you to Dr. Rasoulli, Dr. Booth as well as all the nurses in the Cancer Clinic at the Sault Area Hospital. A special appreciation to Sierra and Jodie for their wonderful care and the many friends, neighbours, and family who stayed in touch and offered help.

In following Alfie’s wishes, cremation has taken place. The family would like to invite friends and family to share their favourite memories during Alfie’s celebration of life at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd., 705-945-7758) on Saturday, May 30, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Memorial donations to the SAH Cancer Care Fund would be greatly appreciated by the family.
