Obituary of Merl Boyer
BOYER, Merl - Passed away peacefully on Monday, May 25, 2026 in his 91st year. Beloved son of the late Estella (King) and the late Louis Boyer. Cherished brother of Margaret Nickle (late Tom) and the late David. Uncle of Brian and great uncle of Cody. He will be missed by his many cousins and friends.
Merl lived a full life retiring from Algoma Steel and enjoying travel, golf, working out at the George Leach gym, coffee with friends, and long daily walks. He was a voracious reader and always had novels scattered about his nightstands. He enjoyed music and would often sing a tune if he thought the moment called for it. He was well known for his sense of humour which will be missed. Merl spent time visiting with family and was always willing to help his aunts with shovelling walkways or mowing the lawn. In his younger years he worked with his grandfather on the ACR and would recount his experiences. Merl was always a Cleavland Indians (later Guardians) fan and when leaving the house would call out, “cheer for Cleveland!" He would smile knowing we always answered, ‘only when they aren't playing the Jays!’. Merl was always very generous and supported many causes, first and foremost the Sault Area Hospital.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Funeral Service at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758) on Thursday, June 11, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Helen Smith officiating. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
A special thanks to the staff at Maple View on the Twin Lakes and Echo Bay units. He was treated with respect and gentle compassionate care.
