Obituary of Peter Bassanello

It is with heavy hearts and much love that we announce the passing of Peter, who departed this life peacefully on Sunday, June 14, 2026 at the age of 96.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 67 years, Silvana. Their marriage was a beautiful testament to love, partnership and dedication to building a wonderful life for their family.

Peter was an exceptional father to his children, Sonia Zalewski (Marty), Linda Bassanello (Lou Sirianni) and Steven Bassanello (Silvana). He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren, Paul, Danielle, Christopher (Katrina), Emma, Megan and great grandchildren, Ella and Michelle. Dearest uncle of Anna and Bruna. Devoted uncle to his many nieces and nephews.

Born on November 17, 1929, in Treviso, Italy, he immigrated to Canada at a young age where he met and married Silvana (Bressan). Peter worked as a licensed pipefitter / plumber in Canada and was also a self-taught carpenter. He created many beautiful, unique cabinets and furniture. He was extremely proud of the house that he built in 1955, and he continued to compliment it with his gardening skills. His craftsmanship was exceptional.

If anyone needed to repair, renovate, or build anything, Peter was your guy! He was extremely generous with his time, and he always had a tool for your specific needs.

Peter has left his family with all the traits that made him an exceptional husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

A very special thank you to the caring and amazing staff at the FJ Davey Home for his care while living in the home and for his end-of-life care.

A private service has been held for the family. Memorial donations to the FJ Davey Home would be greatly appreciated.
