Obituary of Sandy Christie

Sandy sadly left us surrounded by his loving but heartbroken siblings; Peggy, Wayne, Tom, and C.J. He is now home with his Lord, welcomed with open arms by our parents D. Ross and Beulah Mae (Woolley) Christie, older sister Kerry Ann and many other relatives who have gone before.

Being fiercely independent and stubborn, Sandy lived his life his way. He met his challenges head on and did the best he could. Sandy was an avid Greyhound fan, a dedicated choir member, and a very kind and helpful soul (going on coffee runs for the girls and putting water out on Sundays) who always gave you a smile.

Sandy never turned down an adventure or an opportunity to have fun, whether it be bowling (using two lanes) or playing catch with a friend in the front yard which lead to a broken window, and Mom discovered her flowers were all trampled down, practicing his driving skills with dad’s new Dodge while dad was in the hospital with heart issues, or going for a day trip to Edmonton to see the big mall with a pal, only to make it to Wawa then back “it didn’t look that far on the map.”  Some of his adventures were more worrisome; his dive off the high board out west on a family vacation which was a near miss, his broken collar bone in a hockey scrimmage – he was more worried about his sweater.  These are only some of our memories of Sandy.

Sandy loved his animals, especially his Calico Kitty which he took for daily walks on a leash, while delivering the Sault Star, to keep him safe.  Sandy loved watching others’ cats when the owners had gone away.

Depending on how and where you knew him from, he introduced himself as James, Jimmy, Sandy, or Sanford. To us, he is Sandy or Sambo – Our fighter, our hero!

Friends and family are invited to visit at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church (136 Cathcart Street) on Thursday, June 25, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the Memorial Service at 3:00 p.m. Memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Sick Kids or St. Pauls Presbyterian Church Food Bank would be greatly appreciated by the family.

We would like to thank Dr. L. Fera, Dr. Jarrett, the Surgeon Dr. Costain, the Rehab staff, and all the nurses on 3C and 3A (so many to mention and we don’t want to miss any names or misspell them – you know who you are) for your genuine care, compassion, and interest in Sandy. We truly appreciate all you did to keep Sandy comfortable. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
