James Shaule

Obituary of James Shaule

Passed away suddenly at his residence in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario at the age of 72.

Jim is predeceased by his parents Dawson and Helen.  He was the proud father of Dean, Travis (Charlotte) and Colton (Jessica).

A loving grandfather to Hunter, Brooke, Arianna, Alexis, Ella and Sevton. Dear brother to Marilyn (Tom), Karen and Lynn (Sandy). He will be fondly missed by his nieces, nephews, cousins, uncle and aunt.

Jim was an accomplished athlete during his younger years and in high school. He flourished in hockey, baseball, and wrestling. He spent over 30 years helping coach many athletes in the Sault and surrounding area. He helped coach with the Sault wrestling club, the Sir James Dunn football and wrestling team, the Korah Collegiate football team, the Central Algoma Secondary School wrestling team, the Northshore minor hockey league, the Sault minor hockey and finally with the Sault Steelers football club.

Jim followed in his grandfather and father's footsteps, like many others in Sault Ste Marie and worked as an employee of Algoma Steel for 38 years. He spent most of his career in the Cokemaking department and became an FLS in the department as well. After his retirement, which was brief, returned to the plant working part-time for Fosbel.

Jim was an avid fisherman and hunter. He could be found on any lake in the Algoma region fishing or chasing ducks on Ottertail Lake. He spent many years in the northern woods of Ontario hunting moose, deer and grouse. Don’t worry animal lovers, the deer and moose were safe!

Jim was known by many for his jokes, humor and lending a hand when needed.

The family would like to thank the Shuswap Lake General Hospital of Salmon Arm B.C for getting Jim home safely back in May of 2017. The rehabilitation staff of the Sault Area Hospital and the many PSW’s that helped Jim with his care of the past several years. Many thanks go out the residents of Campbell Place apartments for helping him when he needed a hand, a push on his scooter or taking a minute to listen to his jokes!

A special thanks goes out to Shirley, Kathy, Arianne and Andrew for the help over the last several years with Jim’s care.

As per Jim’s request, cremation has taken place.
