Obituary of Susan Nicol (Biluk)

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Susan (Nicol) Biluk, 80, of Sault Ste. Marie, ON. She passed away peacefully on July 7th, 2026 at the Sault Area Hospital.

Born on November 18, 1945, in Toronto, Susan was the daughter of Irvin and Mary Nicol. She was a leading athlete throughout her early years in women’s baseball and basketball and went on to build a rewarding career as a teacher with the Algoma District School Board. Susan had a passion for teaching primary- and junior-aged students and furthered her career by completing her Master’s Degree in Special Education.

Susan had a stead-fast nature and enjoyed a good conversation. She was kind, thoughtful with a generous heart to all that knew her. Susan also a had a profound love of animals and was very creative. Her hobbies over the years included painting, ceramic painting, scrapbooking, and painting wooden figurines. Many of her former students will remember her engaging lessons and unwavering dedication to helping them succeed.

She was the beloved wife of the late William (Bill) Biluk.

Susan was the loving sister of the late Jean Grant-Smith, the late Diana Granger, and Nancy Rowley.

Susan leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories for her nieces, Mary Harris (née Grant), Victoria Granger, Caroline Granger, Erin Rowley, Jade Short (née Rowley), and her nephew, Robert Granger. She was the stepmother of the late Murray Biluk and is survived by her stepchildren, Bob Biluk, Bryan Biluk and Eleanor Roswalka.  Susan will also be fondly remembered by many family in-laws.

Susan’s devoted love for her step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews will be deeply missed.

Friends and family are invited to visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758) on Friday, July 17, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service in the Chapel at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. Helen Smith officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Sault Ste. Marie Humane Society to honour her love of animals would be greatly appreciated by the family.
