Obituary of Christina Coccimiglio

It is with profound sadness that the family of Tina announces her passing on Tuesday, July 21, 2026. She left us peacefully, surrounded by the deep love of the family she spent her life nurturing.

Tina was the beloved wife of Rosario for 64 devoted years. Together, they built a legacy of faith and resilience, making their home in Sault Ste. Marie a place of warmth and welcome.

She was the cherished mother of Mary Putos (David), Rosanne Zagordo (Ronnie), and Theresa Coccimiglio (Dave). Tina’s heart belonged to her five grandchildren, who she followed with immense pride: Samantha (Nick), Heather (Lorenzo), Vincent (Erin), Anastasia (Cooper), and Xavier (Kelsey). Her final years were brightened by her role as a doting Great-Grandma to Theo and Mara.

Tina was the sister of the late Marie MacDonald (late Doug) and the late Tony Scornaiencki (Linda).  Tina was born in Dipignano Italy and immigrated to Canada when she was eight years old.  She worked at the General Hospital and then as a Health Care Aid at the Tendercare Nursing Home. Tina loved taking care of the elderly and always had a soft spot for the less fortunate, or marginalized. Not only would she strike up a conversation with a stranger while in the check out line, she would never let you leave her house empty handed. 

For those who knew Tina, she loved staying connected with family and friends whether it was through a phone call or visit. Tina especially loved to sing her own rendition of 'Happy Birthday' and to those who were lucky to be on her list always looked forward to that special call. 

A woman of quiet strength and legendary generosity, Tina was always at the center of family life. Whether she was making a special homemade meal, baking her famous breadsticks, genettis or tie plates, or simply having a coffee while watching her favorite soap opera, or an episode of “Judge Judy”, Tina was a constant source of comfort putting the needs of others before hers.

Tina was a pillar of strength in the family and had close relationships with many nieces, nephews, compares, commares and treasured friends. Her kindness was felt by many throughout the community, and her loss will be deeply felt by her extended family and friends.

She will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to her family, her gentle spirit, and the love that she gave so freely. Though she has left our sight, her spirit remains woven into the lives of all those she touched.

Her family would like to thank Dr. Kuntz, the Doctors at Sault Area Hospital who took care of Tina during her stay and to the caring Nurses, RPNs, PSWs, Occupational, Physiotherapy and Recreational teams in 3C, ICU and 2A for their compassion and kindness.  

A private celebration of Tina's life was held for the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Christina Coccimiglio to the Sault Area Hospital Foundation or the Sault Area Hospital Cancer Care Fund -organizations she long supported.
