Obituary of Albert Casola
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family announces the peaceful passing of Ab, comfortably in his own home on Saturday, September 26, 2026 after a short illness at the age of 96 surrounded by the people who loved him most.
Cherished husband and best friend and longtime partner for 73 years to Marlene (nee Logan). Loving father of Terry (Elaine) and Marty (Laurie). Devoted Grandpa of Jason (Samantha) and Corey. Cherished great grandfather of Ava and Stevie. Son of the late Luigi and the late Theresa Casola. Survived by his brother Robert (Silvana) and predeceased by his brothers and sister John (late Cecile), Louis (Boofy), Norma, Freddie (Sylvia), Jim (late Jean) (late Marie), Margaret Killoran (late Jim) and Andy Benson. Son-in-law of the late Jack Logan and the late Lillian Chase. Brother-in-law of the late Phyllis Dumanski, late Evelyn Sundholm, and Norman Torttila (Carol). Special and respected uncle to his many nieces and nephews.
Ab was a simple man who loved his family and life’s simplest moments. Golf was definitely a priority and passion as he spent countless days as an honouree member at the Sault Country Club. He was fortunate enough to swing a club until the age of 91. Nothing was more satisfying to him than meeting his buddies weekly (Dick and Elmer) and doing a round of golf. Ab cherished their friendships and always the time spent together exchanging stories. Ab was a consistent golfer. He had a mean swing and always straight down the fairway. His greatest and proudest accomplishment was getting four “holes in one” in his lifetime.
Ab will be remembered with love, forever missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. There will be a big empty space in our lives that will be filled with memories shared. He will live in our hearts forever and will never be forgotten.
A special thank you to Dr. Oliver, Dr. Berry and Dr. Shafiee for all the medical care and compassion given to Ab over the years. With gratitude and appreciation to Ab’s palliative care team: Dr. Apostle, Brenda Paat and finally our guardian angel, Lisa Chandler from Bayshore for the outstanding care over the last month to make Ab comfortable and be able to stay in his home as long as he could. The family is equally grateful to the family and friends who supported Ab and Marlene with visits, encouragement and love throughout his illness.
Friends and family are invited to visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758) on Wednesday, September 30, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Memorial Service in the Chapel at 12:00 p.m. with Father Peter Nwachukwu officiating. Memorial contributions to St. Veronica’s Church or the Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH) would be greatly appreciated.
Rest easy until we meet again. Love you forever!
