Besides at a young age, and going with my Uncle Keith, cousin Tim and Norm to set up camp and moose hunt, a very simple memory of Norm sticks out in my mind the most. It was spring time, Mid May I think. Norm, My uncle Keith and myself were at my Uncles camp, and we were clearing deadfall and debris that had fallen around camp over the winter. Being in my cocky teens I tirelessly tried to show the "old men" up. All day we worked at pulling out deadfall, and cutting up trees with the chainsaw. At the end of the day it was time to clean up. Being Mid May the ice was still on the lake, there was water, but about ten to twenty feet off shore was still the ice pack. So most of the afternoon I poked at the "old men" how they were goin to bed smelly tonight because they wouldnt be able to hack a wash in the lake, and it was no problem for me. Well when it came time to jump in, I think I made it to my ankles, The water was so bloody cold it hurt. I turned around and hightailed it out. As I was literally walking on water to get out of the lake, here came Norm charging in like a bull moose, hooting and hollering he splashed around in there for a good ten minutes. I had a sponge bath in the camp sink that night... lol. Norm was a great guy, he loved his friends his family, his girls and his grandkids. I didnt get to see him often, but it seems every time I was in his presence, it involved a cherished memory. I have a picture of him splashing in the lake that day, I will post it when I can. Take care Norm, wherever you are.
