It was 20 years ago, I was getting ready to have back surgery, I was wheeled to the outside door of the operating room at 3:30 pm and the nurses said: "It will be a while" I said to them that Dr. Fyfe promised me here would be here at 3:30.....silence and then they laughed; "He's never on time they said". I had told him that I was a bit afraid and he said don't worry. And I did not have to worry because moments later he was coming down the hallway and the nurses were scrambling saying "He's never on time" and I just said "He promised me and here he is". I can only say how much I enjoyed him being my doctor, he would leave his coffee cup on my table, do his rounds and said he would be back and sure enough he was and I made him discuss my surgery in layman terms. I believe he appreciated the fact that I was interested in everything that had been done so he enjoyed the conversations. I enjoyed running into him over the years and will truly miss his smile.
My condolences to the family

Neither time nor distance could ever diminish my memory of your Dad; there is only ever going to be one Dr. Fyfe. I speak of him to people who have no clue who he could be or where the Sault even is, because there has been nobody comparable! My thoughts to you, your family, and the entire community. The huge sense of loss is a tribute.

I wanted to extend my condolences to the family of Dr. Fyfe. I don't know your family but wanted to share that if Dr. Fyfe had not performed emergency surgery on me when I was approx. 6 months old, I would not be here today. I have a scar that takes up most of my leg below my knee and it is a daily reminder of how thankful I am to him for what he did for me and my family. I owe so much of my wonderful life to him. That was 39 years ago and there is not a day that goes by that I don't think of Dr. Fyfe. I have a wonderful husband of 17 years and two beautiful boys. I would never have been able to experience such blessings if it wasn't for him. My prayers are with you. I will never forget him. Thank you, Joanna (McColeman) Scott

Dearest Fyfe clan! It was sad to hear, but always fond memories prevail. I have many of such to rely on; as I am sure you all do. It is family, ethic and moral belief that contribute to making us who we are and I feel blessed that The Doc has contributed to me and family. He will forever be remembered as a mentor if not for our differences in opinion of hockey dynasty.

MALARTIC - Don't forget Malartic! We used to go duck hunting early on opening morning,- in two groups Pat, Joe, Dr Orange, myself- pitch dark, ice on the edge of the Heva River, full gear au bout, just waiting for those buggers to come into our decoys. Wow! Shiver and wait. Then, as it got brighter several of the decoys were moving around in the group and we didn't like the idea of blasting our own decoys. Finally, exasperation took over and we opened fire, only to see several of our 'deeks' inflatable decoys droop their heads and sag under water. We returned home with a couple of trophys but there was no bragging about that trip. A wee bit late but Pat went through his waiting room in full gear! What a guy!

Dr. Fyfe was my surgeon at a very difficult time in my life. I broke my ankle in the worse way and my family doctor told me that I was lucky to have had Dr. Ffye. He called him a technical genius. He also said if my ankle had not been set properly I might have never walked after. I thank God everyday my surgeon was Dr. Fyfe. The Sault has lost an amazing doctor. God Bless a man that gave so much to the world during his lifetime. May he rest in peace.

My greetings and sincere condolences go out to the family of Patrick Fyfe ("Uncle Pat" to my father, John Orange). Although I haven't seen him since I was very small, Patrick's name was mentioned often over the years, always with a smile. His sister Margaret (my grandmother) was one of my favorite people; from the lovely Globe obituary it would seem her grace and strength of character is a family trait. The Fyfe family is in my thoughts.

My sincere condolences to the Fife family. As a new nurse just moving to the Sault Dr., Fife treated me with respect and made me feel like I actually knew something. He was this way to everyone, patients, staff, etc. He was genuine, humble and caring to all, all done with an endearing sense of humour. He gave everything to his profession unselfishly which is sometimes lacking today. I will never forget him and strive to carry on his qualities in my work and life!

Hello To Dr. Fyfe's family. I felt the need to write to you and express how much Dr. Fyfe has meant to our family for over thirty years. In 1980, Dr. Fyfe performed a unique back surgery on my Mother. She had an undiagnosed fracture in an MVA years before and suffered terribly. Following a very successful surgery, she never had another moments pain. She returned to an active, fun, life of skiing, swimming, gardening, working. Her life was filled with moments of joy because Dr. Fyfe was so skilled and attentive to his work. I can say, I love you Dr. Fyfe for my Mothers wonderful life. God has you now!

Ah, yes....Dr. Fyfe. So many memories so many stories. I knew him first when I was a nursing student then as an RN working at the General. And as a patient. One of the best doctors the Soo was lucky enough to have. I think my favourite story took place at a late supper break in the cafeteria at the General. The other nurse I was sitting with had also trained there and we were talking about training under the Grey Sisters and reminiscing. Dr. Fyfe joined us and we resumed our conversation. "Barney" was quiet for a brief moment and then chimed in with " Know what my fondest dream is? To marry the last living Grey Nun....can you imagine how rich she would be????" We cracked up, needless to say. I can just picture him schlepping up to St. Peter at the pearly gates, well-worn fishing hat in place and St Peter saying "Name, please" as he looked askance this man's attire and then checking his big book...."Welcome, good and faithful servant. Go right on in." He will be missed tremendously and I consider it a privilege to have known him and to have worked with him. My sincere condolences to the family and loved ones.

I remember Dr. Fyfe as he was my doctor in the early 70's when I required back surgery. I had traveled to Toronto to seek medical care as I was in need of back surgery for a ruptured disc. I was advised to go back to the Sault as the best surgeon was there and his name was Dr. Fyfe. The rest is history as they say. Both my wife Sandra and I wish to extend our condolences to the Fyfe family at this time. May he rest in peace. Lou and Sandra Turco

I worked with Dr. Pat Fyfe in the early seventies. Every Saturday morning (except during duck season) he held a “cast clinic” at the old PMPH. It was an adventure to say the least. I knew Pat outside his “office job” too. I married one of his neighbors so I saw him socially. A true Irishman-Wonderful sense of humour, his love of family was very strong, his commitment to his community was below the radar but most surely there and above all his dedication to his patients was paramount. Pat was a little absent minded. I am sure some of his children will recall being stranded in the EMRG while Dear Old Dad went on to do more important care for his patients. I spent many a time trying to locate his VW Beatle that he “misplaced’ between the PMPH & SGH. Pat was and is the one of finest and most sincere true human beings I have ever known. He loved and cherished his family but his dedication to his patients superseded all. He was in the mold of another remarkable Sault doctor - Alex Sinclair. I offer my condolences but I think that Pat would not want people to mourn his passing but to remember what he did for his family, for his community, but most of all for the many, many folks he was able to help on to a better life. He was a good guy!
