Being next door to Jack and Marg ( I called them Mr. and Mrs. Thomlinson in the beginning) at Haviland Bay for so many years means that I have many many memories. Here are some.
As a sixteen year old I was once staying at the cottage with a couple of friends. I awoke in the night in pain and my friend went and woke Marg and Jack up in the middle of the night. With no hesitation they rushed me to the Hospital in the Soo.
Jack enjoyed teasing me about boyfriends and when he first met Stan he said 'I bet I'll never see you back here again.". For years he pretended surpise each summer when we returned.
He loved to sit on his front deck overlooking the water and talking about life. We would watch the children playing in the water and discuss our hopes and dreams for their future.
One time there was a rat getting into the compost. Jack created a homemade trap in a basket and caught the rat within an hour. He brought it over to show it off .
When my son Tom was a two or three year old, Jack let him help cut and then rake the grass. He taught Tom the term 'wind rows' and then paid Tom for his help by mounting a two dollar bill behind plastic. It still sits in Tom's room as his first ever earned money.
My memories of the Johns family cottage are very much combined with memories of the Thomlinsons. Jack will remain an important part of those years.
with love to Marg and the rest of the family.
Leanne

Summertime neighbours, Dear friend, and dedicated Square Dancers. It was wonderful dancing with you both. Jack was the founding member of the 'Dumb and Dumber Club" and always invited new members to that club when they made a few mistakes on the dance floor. We all miss you. Marg, so sorry for your loss. Highest condolences. Tom and Tut....and all members of the Border Squares.

My childhood summer memories are tied up with Jack and his children and I recall him fondly. My own children knew him as "Farmer Jack". I have so many personal memories of conversations with him over odd things like composting worms. I would share these but they are quirky and I would not wish his sense of humour to be taken the wrong way :) He was a lot of fun.
