BERNARDO, Giovanni "John"- It is with deep profound sadness and regret that we announce the passing of Giovanni "John" Bernardo on January 23, 2015, just days before his 85th birthday. Devoted husband, lifetime love and best friend of Erbina (nee Iacoe) for 60 years. Father, mentor and best friend of Rosina Bruni (Giovanni), Pasquale "Pat" Bernardo (Laurel) and MaryLou Hoffman (Kenneth). Proud grandfather of Sam Bruni (Ivana), Tina Elliott (Jamie) and Lori-Anne Nowitski (Brad). Adored and respected great grandfather of Alicia, Aiden, James, Victoria, Nicholas, Gabriella and Arianna. Giovanni was the beloved son of the late Pasquale and Rosina (nee Rino) Bernardo. Dear brother of the late Maria Coccimiglio (late Gino), Elena Mercuri, Carmella Storti (late Rino), Frank Bernardo (Franca), Joseph Bernardo (Lisa) and Emma Ferraro (Michael). Son-in-law of the late Rico and Maria Theresa (nee Pino) Iacoe. Brother-in-law of the late Pasquale Iacoe (late Adelina), late Rosina Fiore (late Vincenzo), late Carmella Giunti (late Antonio), Michael Iacoe (Luisa), late Peitro Iacoe (Adelina), late Giovanni Iacoe (Maria), late Gennaro (Esterina), Emilio (Annetta) and Orlando (Assunta). Special nephew of the late Salvatore Bernardo (Antonia) and dear uncle and great uncle of many lovely nieces and nephews. Adored as "honourary grandpa" by Sari and Sadie Williams. Prior to Giovanni's illness, he lavished his time outdoors, fishing, hunting and gardening. He was truly a gentleman with utmost respect and kindness for people, always lending a helping hand. We miss him dearly and treasure every moment of our lives together. Family is invited to visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation & Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Road 705-945-7758) on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Friends and Family are invited to the funeral service in the chapel at 1:00 p.m. Entombment at Holy Sepulchre Mausoleum . Memorial donations to Odd Fellow and Rebekah of Sault Ste. Marie, or the Alzheimer Society Sault Ste. Marie.
