Obituary of Ernest Shamess

- Passed away peacefully, in his sleep on Monday, March 16, 2015 in his 90th year. Beloved husband of Jane Shamess. Dear father of Carol Shamess (Don Ferrone), Sault Ontario, Albie Shamess (Fiona), Victoria BC, Charles Shamess, Toronto and Cathy Gustafson (John), Victoria BC. Loving grandfather of Nathan, Lili, Molly, David, Dean, Tomas, Garnet, Josh, and Tavin. Youngest son of the late Albert and Wadia Solomon, Blind River Ontario Dear brother of the late Dr. Sam Shamess, Sault Ontario, Dr. Caram Shamess, Mansfield Ohio and Edna and Delia Solomon Blind River. After graduation from the University of Toronto, in 1949, he worked with another Dentist in Cochrane and Sudbury for a while, then set up practice in Wawa in 1950 where he was the first resident Dentist. He and Jane were married in Toronto in May 1951. He was a member of the Sault & District Dental Society, a member of Woodland Lodge in Wawa, a charter member of the Michipicoten Golf Club and a member of St. Andrews United Church. He loved the wilderness where his favourite pastimes were fishing and picking berries. He loved curling, golfing, cross-country skiing and playing Bridge. Ernie loved cats and dogs and always reached out to pet them. His failing health forced he and Jane to move to the Sault 5 years ago where they have lived at Collegiate Heights. Family and friends are invited to visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Road 705-945-7758) on Saturday, March 28, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service in the Chapel at 12:00 noon. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery. Memorial donations to Sault Area Hospital Foundation, Lady Dunn Health Center (Wawa), Sault Humane Society, Mapleview Residents Council or St. Andrew's Church would be greatly appreciated. The family would like to thank the staff at Collegiate Heights, the nurses in 2C at Sault Area Hospital, the staff in Tunnel Lake and Harmony Bay at Mapleview.
