Peacefully with his family by his side at the Sault Area Hospital on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at the age of 78. Beloved husband of Maureen Barber Oswin and the late Shirley Oswin (nee Stanghetti). Loving father of Jeannine Crossley (Ray), Cal Oswin (Cynthia), Vicki Lewis (Brent), Joanne Oswin (Kylie), Natalie Oswin (Cher) and loving stepfather of Jesse Barber (Jennifer). Cherished grandfather of David, Jennifer, Noreen (Brad), Alison, Alana, Christopher, Nadia, Ezha, Jenna, Vanessa, Grace and Isaac. Son of the late Clarence and Alice Oswin. Son-in-law of the late Naldo and late Freda Stanghetti, Verna Lucey and Lawrence Barber. Dear brother of the late Alice Holder, the late Marilyn Wallace (late Bob), Gladys Oswin and Richard Sherman. Brother-in-law of the late Ron Stanghetta (Claire), Marshall Barber (Peggy), Cynthia McGugan (Neil), David Barber (Joan), Christine Barber and Jason Barber (Dalia). Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to all of the health care professionals for their attentive care. Fred retired in 1991 from Algoma Steel after a long and distinguished career. Fred was passionate about the outdoors and spending time with family and close friends up the ACR at Sand Lake, and on Lake Superior at Hibbard Bay. Building things was a constant hobby, as were fishing and hunting. Fred had many recreational past-times such as curling, poker games, bocce and volleyball over many years, with his tremendous group of long-time friends. Always proud, strong and very capable, Fred also conferred upon his family and friends compassion, humour and great love. He will be sadly missed by all. Friends are invited to visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Road 705-945-7758) on Sunday, April 19, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. until time of funeral service in the Chapel at 1:00 p.m. Inurnment at Greenwood Cemetery at a later date. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Sault Area Hospital Foundation, ARCH or the SSMarie Humane Society.
