"How Much Does a Fish Cost"
"Have you Seen Michael?"
Everyone knows Tom was an avid Sportsman, and fearless……however, evenTom, like most smart husbands, had moments of husbandly fear,
I was getting into my car one morning, readying for the drive into town for work, when a truck roared up and screeched to a stop at the end of our driveway. Looking up, I saw Tom….a loud voice croaked out "Sharon, have you seen Michael?"
That's right, croaked the words out out with just a tinge of panic.. You see, this wasn't the first time Tom had misplaced Michael when Laurie wasn't home. He knew that if he didn't find him Laurie would cook his goose. Tom then roared off to continue the search for the elusive Michael.
I am happy to report that Tom did find Michael before Laurie got home, and his goose remained uncooked…….at least that day……….

Tom was a true sportsman, hunting and fishing…but fishing was his greatest passion. He fished all year round and I am sure he would have fished every day if he could have……Bill was lucky enough to have fished with Tom, although I think Tom owned a golden fishing rod for few people could outfish him.
One day, Bill and Tom were mucking about in Tom's garage with the new boat. Bill's eyes glazed over (as usual) looking at all of Tom's fishing loot, wishing he had such a collection of gear, gizmos and gadgets,,,I don't know if Tom read Bill's mind that day but he turned to him and said:
"For all the money I spent, if the fish isn't worth $100.00, it isn't worth catching"….I howled….

I don't know what we did to have the gods smile upon us when we moved out here, but they did, and Tom and Bill become fast friends. .
I would find out about these little gems of "Tomisms" because Bill, whether he was in the room with us, or off elsewhere in the house by himself, would suddenly burst out in a happy chuckle……..remembering earlier conversations with Tom.
It was always a "Tomism" …..whether a turn of phrase or Tom's wicked sense of humour (although his coining the phrase that "Laurie and Sharon are the fun police" was so not true!) and how he looked at life, which caused those chuckles to reverberate throughout our house.
And when they weren't together, the cell phones were pinging back and forth, more laughter from Bill………he'd just shake his head laughing…..it's Tom…
So here's to you Tom……….
Thank you for being the best neighbour we could ever have asked for, for taking such good care of us, and for being the best friend Bill will ever know…………
We will raise our glasses in your honour……..with love, respect and admiration…..
……..and when you cast out that golden rod on the other side….if you haven't already……I am sure the fish won't cost so much…..
