HEPBURN, Karen - Passed away peacefully at Sault Area Hospital with her two daughters at her side. Karen, who was 75, will be lovingly remembered by her children, Kathleen, Colleen and Chris and her granddaughter Lindsay. Karen was born in Cloquet, Minnesota on June 16, 1940 to Eldred and Myrtle Tweith. As a child, she spent many happy summers at her family's resort in Island Lake, Minnesota. After her marriage, she moved to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Later, as a single mother with three small children, she spent two years at Northern Michigan University obtaining a master's degree in guidance counseling. Her bravery, perseverance and optimism proved unparalleled and served her well during her thirty year battle with breast cancer which she ultimately lost. Throughout her working life, Karen formed lifelong friendships with her many co-workers in the Sault Ste. Marie Public School Board, the Sears catalogue department and later on at her dream job at Life's a Stitch. In her spare time Karen was an avid quilter, camper, gardener and volunteer. The deep impact her presence had on those around her was seen in the stream of faithful visitors who came to see her throughout her many months in the hospital. The family would like to thank her friends and the staff on 2C at Sault Area Hospital and Great Northern Retirement Home. A memorial service will be held at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Road 705-945-7758) on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Mrs. Helen Smith officiating. Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family. www.northwoodfuneral.com
