With heavy hearts the family announces the sudden passing of Gus on Saturday, January 30, 2016, at the age of 66. Gus shared many loving memories with his wife Kathy for over 40 years. Adored and respected father of Katie, Mark (Natalie) and Andrea (fiancé Michael Boglitch). Predeceased by his parents Guido and Malfisa Palombi. Loving brother and friend of Reno and Marilyn Palombi and Carla and David McDowell. Loving brother‐in‐law and friend of Mike and Betty Oliver and Paul and Terri Vaillancourt. Cherished uncle of Melissa Palombi, Christine Aikens (Greg), Michael Palombi (Danielle), Kyle McDowell, Matt Oliver (Callie), Ben Oliver (Tara) and Tim Walker. Great uncle of Cameron, Grace and Archie. Gus was born in 1949 in Carpineto Romano, Italy and his family immigrated to Canada in 1956. He was very proud of his Italian heritage and will be missed by his many family members in Italy whom he enjoyed visiting. He attended St. Francis Elementary School, Bawating High School, Waterloo Lutheran University and The University of Toronto Law School. Gus was called to the bar in 1978. As a member of the Law Society for 37 years, he was devoted to the practice of law, and respected by his many colleagues and clients. He loved spending time at his cottage with his family and friends. Gus formed many close friendships throughout the years and was extremely loyal. Friends were important to him, and whether it was skiing, playing squash, going for bike rides, or telling stories over a glass of good wine, their times together were always valued. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Aunty Betty and Uncle Mike, Adam and Toni Oprici, Maureen O'Shea, Chris Chevrier, and Mike Meraglia, who worked tirelessly to try and save Gus's life. Thank you to Gil Edwards, Steve Quesnele and the first responders. Thank you to Dr. Booth, Dr. Ip, and the incredible emergency room staff. Visitation will be held at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Road 705‐945‐7758) on Thursday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at St. Gregory's Church on Friday, February, 5, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Pat Woods. Gus dedicated many years as President of the Sault Area Hospital Foundation and it would be his wish that memorial donations be given in his memory to this organization which he was passionate about.
