Passed away peacefully at home, as he wished to do, embraced in the loving arms of his wife and surrounded by the love of his family at the age of 50 on Wednesday, February 24, 2016. He will be greatly missed by the love of his life and best friend Brenda Tessariol-Smith. Proud stepfather and friend of Reilly, Aaron and Lindsay. Beloved son of Desmond and Elizabeth Smith. Brother of Daren (Cathy). Uncle of Cody and Amanda. Brother-in-law of Jennifer Chenier (Dan). Dear friend of Dr. Neil Malcolm. Cremation has taken place. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Derrick's life at our home (642 Red Pine Drive) on Sunday, February 28, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Memorial donations to ARCH would be appreciated by the family. A very special thank you to the kind and compassionate staff of CCAC, Paramed, CarePartners, Medigas, and to the outstanding doctors and nurses at the SAH ICU and Algoma District Cancer Clinic. You fought the good fight. Rest in peace my love.
