AIKENS, Douglas - The family of Douglas Charles Aikens is very sad to announce his death on October 23, 2010 at the age of 69. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him. He was an amazing man, who worked hard all his life and who handled the many trials of his last few years with much courage, grace and humor. Dearly loved husband of Esther (McMillan) for 45 years. Loving father to Richard Aikens (Jeannette), Michael Aikens (Trudi), Scott Aikens (Melissa).Devoted grandfather to Joel and Nicole Aikens, Megan and Tori Aikens,Caitlin and Hannah Aikens. Doug is the son of Grace and the late Charles Aikens. Brother to Terry Aikens (Noella), Steve Aikens (Wendy), Debbie MacPherson (Scott), the late Richard Aikens, the late Sharon Aikens. Brother in -law to Tom and Marilyn Hurley, Lorna Eddy (late Rod), Chester McMillan, Frank and Kelly McMillan. Special thanks to the Renal Dialysis Unit, Dr Barry and Dr. Shafiee, Marsha, Brenda and Shirley. Also to the nurses on 300 Y who took such good care of Doug. A celebration of Doug's life will be held at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre Tuesday October 26, 2010 from 6 pm to 9 pm. Memorial donations to the S.A.H Renal Dialysis Fund or the Soup Kitchen would be appreciated by the family. www.northwoodfuneral.com
