Obituary of Joan Matechuk

Joan Anne Matechuk (Joanne) of Sault Ste Marie passed away peacefully at her son's home in Thornhill, On September 13, 2011 with her children by her side after a courageous battle with cancer. A long time resident of Bayview, and former owner of Joanne's Variety, she is survived by her daughter Debbie Birmingham (Herbert) of Sault Ste Marie; two sons; Terry Birmingham and wife Lisa of Thornhill, ON and Gerry Birmingham (Jay)and wife Carole of Whitby, ON. She will be missed by her four grandchildren; Angel-Dawn, Chanelle, Caley and Nicholas; brothers Adam (Rene), Nicholas (Laurena), Johnny (Diane) and sister Linda. Predeceased by her mother Jennie Wrona (nee Lachowich) and her father Nicholas Matechuk. Friends may visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation & Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Road 705-945-7758) on Friday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. Funerall service in the Chapel on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at 10 a.m. with Mrs. Helen Smith officiating. Contributions in Joanne's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
