Obituary of Jose Dias Baia

Please share a memory of Jose to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our ever loving father José Dias Baia (Joe) at Extendicare Mapleview Nursing Home on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at the age of 89. José was born in Portugal to the late Teresa De Carvalho and the late Guillermino Baia. He made his way to Canada in the late 50’s, and settled in Sault Ste. Marie where many would know him as “Joe the Barber”. He was a very proud man who loved his family above all. He will be reunited with his beloved wife, our mother, Arminda, who passed away April 14, 2016. José was very proud of his children Richard, late Armando, Liz Boyle (Doug), Darlene Leblanc (Andy), and Wanda Senkus (Dave). Avô adored his grandchildren Dana, Michael, Olivia, Wyatt, Katelyn, Brianna and Mikaela and great-grandson Lincoln. Dear brother of Manuel (Maria), late Domingos (Luisa), late Bento, late Americo (Maria), late Rosa (Augusto), and late Maria. Brother-in-law to late Americo (Maria), late Maria (late Antonio), and late Casimira (late Manuel). Son-in-law to the late Alivio and Balbina Dias. He was a respected and loving uncle to many nieces and nephews living in Canada, Portugal, Brazil, England, France and the U.S. Friends and family may call at the Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Road 705-945-7758) on Friday, October 14, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. followed by a mass at St. Gregory’s Parish 71 Estelle Street at 2:00 p.m. with Father Alex Saurianthadathil officiating. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Memorial donations to the March of Dimes or St. Gregory’s Kneeler Project would be appreciated by the family. The family would like to thank all the wonderful staff from March of Dimes, VON, Paramed, and Extendicare Mapleview Nursing Home, who took great care of him these last couple of years. He was always appreciative of everything you did.
