Obituary of Verna Mae Cantin
CANTIN, Verna Mae (Carr, Winterburn) June 25, 1927 – May 11, 2017
Beloved wife of Valmore (Val) Cantin (deceased), step-mother of Melanie Leishman (Ron) and Ron Cantin (Connie), grandmother of Michelle Barnard (Joe), Lisa Kranendonk (Sheldon), Alan Cantin (Amy) and Laura Stewart (Adam), and nana to Pearl and Nora Barnard, Lucy Kranendonk, Mila and Esmee Cantin and Graham, Olive and Reid Stewart.
Verna was born in Lucky Lake, Saskatchewan on June 25, 1927, the youngest of 8 children, to Herbert James and Annie Winterburn. Verna will be missed by her two surviving sisters Mildred and Doreen of Prince Albert Saskatchewan. Verna was predeceased by five brothers Howard, Fred, Bob, Melvin and Clarence all of Saskatchewan. She was also predeceased by her first husband, John Carr, of Owen Sound.
She will also be remembered by her sister-in-law Muriel Cantin of Sault Ste. Marie and many nieces and nephews.
Upon her retirement in 1992, after 40 years employment with Edwards of Canada in Owen Sound, Verna moved to Sault Ste. Marie and married Val.
Verna will be fondly remembered by all who knew her for her sense of humour and great hugs. Verna loved Bingo and cards and was a regular at the Senior Drop-in Centre and Legion for many years.
The family wish to thank the staff and friends at Great Northern Retirement Home for their loving care and friendship over the past five years. We also wish to acknowledge the excellent care Verna received at Sault Area Hospital Renal Unit and ICU.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral home. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Sault Ste. Marie on August 26, 2017 at 11:00 am followed by a celebration of Verna’s life at Willowgrove United Church Fellowship Hall.
