Obituary of Nino Castellani
Born March 19, 1930 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario to his parents Regina (nee Macoritto) and Giovanni Castellani. Brother to the late Mary (nee Castellani) Dellerbo and Rita (nee Castellani) Buttazoni. He attended Scollard Hall in North Bay where he was an avid sports participant in basketball and football. Nino worked at Ford Motor Company in Detroit MI for a time and then entered the US Army during the Korean Crisis. He was stationed in Germany where he was a Medic. After his tour of duty, he returned home and was employed by Mannesman Tube where he worked until retirement. Once home he met Margaret Keizer and began the next phase of his life. Margaret and Nino raised six children; Laurie Ellen Gwynne (David), Anne Marie Matthies (Scott), Roma Lee Reid (Bruce), Giovanni Castellani, Mirco Castellani and Nino Castellani Jr. (Lori). They enjoyed entertaining family and friends. Nino took great pleasure in his 12 grandchildren; Francis, Elizabeth and Jennifer Gwynne; Gregory Matthies; Andrea (nee Reid) Hebner (Darrel), Mandy (nee Reid) Therien (Jesse), and Kenneth Reid; Vincent and Alexandra Castellani; Kali (nee Castellani) Thomas (Zack), Nino Bud Castellani and James Castellani. Nino was also the Great-Grandfather to Francis Matthies; Vada, Berkley and River Hebner; Jax and Henrik Therien. Nino enjoyed golfing, swimming, bowling, playing cards and wine making. He also served as a Eucharistic minister at St. Jerome’s parish. Nino took solace in reading the bible every day. Nino left this life July 7, 2017 at the Mapleview Nursing Home in Sault Ste. Marie. The children of Nino would like to thank all those who visited and gave care and affection to him. A private funeral service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Azheimer Society in Nino's name.
