Obituary of Elizabeth Bentham
Born in Paisley, Scotland, Betty died peacefully at the F.J. Davey Home at the age of 75. Beloved wife of the late Peter Bentham. Loving mother and mother-in-law to Jason & Judy Bentham. Adored ‘Gran’ of Mackenzie Bentham. Betty is also survived by her family back home in Scotland: siblings May (Hugh), John (Roberta), Myra (Wully), Suzanne (Billy) and the late Frank. Aunt to many special nieces & nephews; grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Betty followed the man of her dreams to Canada and was married in 1962 to Peter. When Peter had a life-altering accident, Betty stood by him and cared for him until his death in 1988. She didn’t have an easy life, but she never quit. Once diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2006, Betty joined her son and his family in Sault Ste. Marie where she enjoyed ATVing and sliding down Finn Hill with her grandson. She remained active as much as she could until that uncaring disease took her mind and body. At Betty’s request, a private family gathering and cremation has taken place. Memorial donations to The Alzheimer Society would be appreciated by the family. The family would like to thank the staff of the F.J. Davey Home for their care, kindness and compassion. You truly became a part of Betty’s family over the past years and we are so grateful to you all. A special thank you to Dr. Ed Hirvi for the care and support he provided to Betty.
