Edward Smilanetz Jr.

Obituary of Edward Alexander Smilanetz Jr.

Please share a memory of Edward to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

With peace in his heart, his loving wife Carol by his side, who he was devoted to for 48 years, Edward passed away in the comfort of home in the early morning of April 4, 2018 at the age of 73.  Also with him during the few days and nights that led to his passing was his loving nephew Kyle. He lived his life in faith with the hope that in death he would be in the presence of his Lord Jesus, his beloved parents, Stafie and Ed and his beloved in-laws Mary and Louis Scali. He leaves behind his love and treasured memories for his brother-in-law Ken (Jane), Kyle (Priscilla) Walker & Zara, Andrew (Chainee) Devon, Kendra (Dylan).  Loved by his sister Victoria Reiter (Eric) and their children and families. During his younger days he spent summers and often Saturdays throughout the year at his Dad’s grocery store on Goulais Avenue giving him the opportunity to enjoy socializing with customers in the store and customers on his Bayview grocery delivery route. During his teaching years at Korah Collegiate in the Business Dept. from 1969 to 1999 he enjoyed 17 years of initiating and managing the Korah High School Bowling League that included year end banquets and a few years with an Alumni Bowling Tournament for present and past students.  He was also, for a few years, the coach of the Korah Colts Hockey Team and several years as Teacher Mentor for the team.  “I hope that in good ways I touched the lives of people at Korah … students, teachers and staff”. Upon retirement in 1999 wood working became a hobby and hours were spent in his work shop with various projects he took pride in completing.  Eighteen years of winters were spent enjoying Florida golfing with buddies whose friendships carried through all year. Socializing with friends, sharing stories and beers at the “come and join us” picnic table at Woodside in Palm Bay was always a high light of friendship and enjoyment. The networking and care given at our Cancer Clinic is amazing.  Sincere thanks to Dr. Rassouli, nurse Paula Greco and all the nurses who cared for Ed with expertise and compassion during these past two years.  We journeyed through the doors of Diagnostic Imaging, Urology with Dr. Haidar and staff, Radiation with Dr. Shehata, nurse Shiela Hamilton and visits to Emergency.  Thank you as well to his family doctor Dr. Jonusitas, nurse Jody, all homecare nurses from Bayshore with special thanks to Jeff McIntrye, and homecare from Medigas, Brandon Moore and staff.  All treated him with the same expertise, compassion and respect.  Medical and volunteer staff who we met deserve recognition for their smiles, kindness and expertise always given without hesitation.   Had ARCH been our final plan, we knew from our meetings that we would have been a blended family with quality care and kindness that would have been given in those final days by those who understood.  Special thanks to Dr. Buehner for her compassionate visits. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Veronica’s Catholic Church on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at 1:00 pm with Father Ron Ambeault officiating. This will be the true celebration of his life. Edward has said he would be very thankful for Memorial Mass donations and donations to St. Veronica’s Church made in his name. Love never dies … you have taken ours with you … and you have left yours with us. Chaplet of Divine Mercy “For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and the whole world”.  Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758).
