Obituary of Fernando Attoni

Peacefully passed away at the Algoma Residential Community Hospice on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at the age of 89. Beloved husband of Santa for 62 years. Cherished father of Dionisia Marson (Paul) and Vittoria Pileggi (Robert). Proud Nonno of Taio Marson (Karen), Dion Marson, Martina Pileggi and Nicolai Pileggi. Special Bis Nonno of Alesaundra and Annarosa. Predeceased by his parents Barnaba and Vittoria Attoni. Dear brother of Domenico Attoni (Iliana). Brother-in-law of Gioconda (Ruggero), Teresa (Angelo) and Alderico (Luciana) all of Italy. He will be missed by his nieces, nephews and special friends who were just like family.

Born in Isola Fossara, Italy Fernando came to Canada at the age of 23 and worked very hard to provide a good life for his family.  He was proud to be a caretaker for the HS Catholic District School Board and always stressed the importance of education. He was proud of his family and never passed up the opportunity to show off a photo. He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting and gardening and was a lifelong member of the G. Marconi Society.

Friends and family are invited to visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758) on Friday, June 22, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass to be held at St. Gerard Majella Church on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Alex Saurianthadathil officiating. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Memorial donations to ARCH would be appreciated by the family. Thank you to Dr. Ianni for the great care shown to Fernando as his family physician for many years and also to Dr. Jarrett who has continued his care after Dr. Ianni’s retirement. Thank you to the staff at the Sault Area Hospital, Dr. Apostle and Dr. Mitchell. Special thank you to the staff at ARCH for the care and compassion shown to Fernando and our family.
