Obituary of Robert Murray Lonergan

With great sorrow, we announce the passing of Bob. He died peacefully after a lengthy illness, with his loving wife at his side at the Algoma Residential Community Hospice on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at the age of 77. Devoted husband and best friend of Marie for 41 years. Predeceased by his parents Richard and Hazel Lonergan. Brother of Lynda Workman-Rinker (late David, late Gladden), Debra Giannone, Richard Lonergan and the late Gerald Lonergan. Son-in-law of the late Howard and Laura James. Brother-in-law of the late Charles James. Bob will be missed by his many nieces and nephews. Bob enjoyed a long career with Mutual Life of Canada, later The Mutual Group. He was a 30-year member of the local YMCA and upon retirement, became an avid golfer. He enjoyed many trips to southern Ontario to visit with relatives. At Bob’s request, there will be no visitation or service. Cremation has taken place. Interment at Old Greenwood Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Sault Area Hospital Cancer Care Fund would be appreciated by the family. Many thanks to Barry, Austin, Elaine, Glenn, Pat, Diane and Mike for their help and kindness throughout Bob’s illness. A special thank you to the nurse practitioner Brenda Paat, Dr. Hill, Dr. Booth, Dr. Wilson, the staff of 3A and the wonderful staff of the SAH Cancer Clinic for their exceptional care and compassion. The family is also very grateful for the special care and kindness that Bob received at ARCH.
